Playing Kindergarten

While I was at bell choir rehearsal last night, the kids had a very fun time "playing kindergarten." Miss H. (Annika) was the teacher and Daniel was the pupil. Miss H made up all kinds of worksheets and had Daniel turn them into the "in-basket" where she graded them and then put in Daniel's backpack to take home. Here are some of the examples.

It appears that Daniel is well on track for starting to school! :) After lunchtime (aka dinner), we took a break to go to Target. Daniel had been dry at naptime 10 days in a row (he has been potty trained for a long time but still has accidents when sleeping because he is such a heavy sleeper) and he was able to get a toy as a reward at Target. Annika had saved up her allowance and was ready to buy a toy of her own. We told the kids on the way home about our new "one in, one out" rule - for each item that we bring into the house, we have to bring an item out of the house.

Annika elected to "bring out" (we will donate to Goodwill) her stuffed Wall-E. Even though she has at least 249 stuffed animals now, this still made me a little sad inside - when she was 4/5 years old, Wall-E was her absolute favorite. She even had a Wall-E birthday party for her 6th party and a Wall-E back-pack in kindergarten. Not gonna lie - it makes me hurt a little inside that she has outgrown it (gee, I wonder where my kids get their inability to get rid of things?!?).

For his own part, Daniel chose to "bring out" the following toy of the house. The only problem - it was not actually his toy, but Will's old toy from his childhood. Will told him as such, and Daniel responded by sticking it on our nightstand :) After more consideration, Will decided that it was time to get rid of this awesome old toy, too. Blah. Getting rid of stuff is so so necessary and yet so hard. :)
