MANDATORY Amy-Julie Sister > Fun Afternoon Day

This afternoon was MANDATORY Amy-Julie Sister > Fun Afternoon Day. And what a fun time it was! Our plan was to have a shopping/snack adventure. We would go shopping, particularly for jeans and shoes, and after every store, we would buy a snack.

Even our journey there was interesting, seeing as today is Fake Patty's Day (click here if you are unfamiliar with these festivities). We drove on the edge of Aggieville and got to see people making their way over to the bars.

Everywhere we drove, there were massive hoards of college students in green shirts. None appeared to be staggering yet, though.

Once at the mall, our first stop was to hit Dillard's and look for shoes. I usually purchase my shoes at PayLess but Will had gone to Dillard's recently and had great success there with high-quality shoes. I was so excited until discovering that Dillard's had....NO women's shoes in "wide" width. None. We then went to several other shoe stores, all with the same result. Unknown to me, Payless is actually one of the few retailers that carries shoes in "wide" for women (!?!?).

Julie convinced me that we needed to regroup and have a snack. We got some pretzel bites with cheddar cheese sauce while Julie spun the wonders of Zappos.com. It is an online store with thousands and thousands of shoes, with free shipping AND free return shipping up to 365 days later if you decide to return them. I have heard about it before but Julie convinced me to take the Online Shoe Purchase Plunge. With her help, we navigated the Zappos site on my phone and I ordered two pairs of dress shoes. Success!

Next up, we went to Our Favorite Store - Maurcies! This store is simply fabulous. For one thing, they carry jeans in all different sizes and lengths, including short AND extra short!! Julie below is modeling how the extra-short jeans are TOO SHORT FOR HER! So awesome.

One of my favorite things about Maurices is the fitting-room process. The sales people there take your clothes back to the dressing room, and they then write your name on the door. It is super cool. The fitting rooms are really nice, with benches and comfy lighting. And the sales people continue to be helpful, finding items in a different size or style or whatever you need.

So much fun trying on clothes together! We are wearing the jeans that we ended up getting and I have on a new shirt.

By the way, I highly recommend Maurcies jeans. They are only $29 and come in very length or size or color or style you can desire. Love the Kaylee Boot cut!

We then headed over to Downtown Manhattan on Poyntz Avenue to celebrate our success and headed to AJs Pizzeria.

We split a slice of pizza and some cinnamon knots.

One thing that we were excited about when we got to AJs is that the K-State/OSU game was on the TV there. However, our presence was bad luck, as K-State then proceeded to fall apart in the end. (However, later tonight KU lost big time to Baylor, and we are now co-Big 12 champions, hooray!)

My camera (aka iPhone) was running out of batteries at this point, so picture the following images.

[Brown's Shoe Store in Downtown....Julie found the perfect brown shoes!! Ironically, they are the exact same style as her existing ones, but in a different color. Very cute store. They told me that they have "random wides" available.]

[Kieu's, a woman's clothing store, also in Downtown. They definitely have smaller clothes. However, the style was a little bit off and I am not quite sure who the target demographic would be. They also had a lot of formal dresses in the back and there were several girls in there trying on dresses for high school prom.]

[What kind of sister date wouldn't be complete without a trip to the library?? We capped off our date by stopping at the library to pick up holds. Julie is reading The Nurture Assumption, and I am reading The Trouble with Boys: A Surprising Report on Our Sons..... ;) ]
