Day 1 of Vacation - Oklahoma City

We made it to Oklahoma City to kick off our spring break trip the first part of this week! Annika was an acolyte this morning and I taught children's church, so we waited until after church to hit the road.

On our way to OKC, we stopped in Wichita to visit my parents and enjoy some yummy Freddy's concretes (ice cream).

Annika was very excited to show Grandma her "build a cat" Wendy, whom she named after Grandma's (and Grandpa's??) own pet cat Wendy.

My mom took some great pictures there and sent them to me from her phone....thanks, Mom! Daniel has been rather challenging to photograph but I just love this picture of him below.

It was about 2.5 hours from Wichita to OKC. Once we arrived at our hotel, we had a very handsome doorman to assist us.

The kids were excited to unpack all of their suitcases and put everything away. They declared that this hotel "wasn't as nice as the one in Maryland" (when the family came along to my D.C. conference this past summer), but considering that was at a Gaylord Palms, I don't think it will ever be matched. :)

For dinner, we explored a very fun part of OKC near downtown...Bricktown! It reminds me a lot of Wichita's Old Town with the trendy restaurants and development in an old warehouse district. They even had my favorite old Wichita restaurant....Spaghetti Warehouse. It looked EXACTLY the same, complete with the old trolley inside.

Even better....no food drama from anyone. Score!

We had found a cute ice cream shop along a riverfront that we were planning to go to after dinner, but that plan got shot down because the kids were chomping at the bit to swim in the hotel pool. We had the pool to ourselves after the first few minutes, probably because we didn't get there until after 9 p.m.

Will was a trooper and got in with the kids in the water. The water was NOT warm at all. :) Annika had a great time swimming around all by herself. Daniel spent most of this time on the steps, but also explored around some while holding on to the wall.

I spent much of my pool time in this delightful hot tub. It was actually (a) quite hot and (b) very bubbly. The epitome of relaxation and a wonderful way to help kick off spring break.
