You'll Never Walk Alone

Life is like a roller coaster: In moments of calmness, it's easy to move along unencumbered. But in times of stress or strife, it's much easier to navigate difficulties when we cling to each other.

I was thinking today about all the people in our lives who love for and care for our children:

  • Teachers who care deeply for our children's well-being, in both academics and socio-emotional health.
  • Medical providers who have been a great asset and source of support. As one of our children said about one facility in town, "They are full of nice people who just want to help you!"
  • A church family who claims our children as its own, from peers with kids the same age to those whose children have long grown but still take the time to place encouraging notes in our church mailbox.
  • Friends who love our children fiercely, and who are deeply committed to ensuring our kids' happiness and success.
  • Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins who foster a rich sense of belonging in our children. They know they are truly loved unconditionally.
  • A partner in all things in life who is the best parent for our children I could ever imagine.
It is hard being a kid. It is hard being a parent. But it is so much easier when you know you will never walk alone.
