I am happy to report that we all survived Daniel's 5th Birthday Party! There was some initial confusion on Daniel's part because his party was today but his actual birthday is not until Wednesday. We spent a lot of time drilling into him that today was the party but his "real birthday" was not until Wednesday. Thus, when the first party guest told him "Happy Birthday!" Daniel promptly responded with, "It's not my birthday."
Getting ready and decorating for the party:
Our food, snacks with pizza and chicken. We also bought some snack-size chip bags that we forgot to set out - guess we'll be eating chips for a while.
Some of our party guests! The kids played outside for a little when they first arrived, but spent most of the first hour playing inside (aka some eating and mostly running around).
We later ventured outside for THE PINATA. The kids all took turns hitting the pinata with a stick while blindfolded. It eventually fell down and they were able to just whack it with a stick. Finally, someone broke open a hole in it and Will poured everything on the ground for the kids to grab.
CAKE! Daniel had an "Angry Birds" theme for most of the party, but had a "Transformers" cake because he thought it looked cool.
Opening presents! Daniel has a very impressive haul thanks to his super generous friends. When we were in Florida, almost all of the birthday parties that we attended didn't have the guests opening presents during the party itself. I think that is how I did it when we first moved back to Kansas, but then quickly noticed that the norm here is to open them at the party itself. I really like that and I think all the kids really enjoy this!
Enjoying a quiet moment after the party with one of Daniel's friends and the book that they gave him.
This is Daniel's room and a survey of what our house looks like now. :)
