In an attempt to simplify, I did not write a holiday letter this year, with the thought that most people would already know everything about our lives because they are on Facebook and/or read this blog. Instead, we sent out a Christmas card that included key snippets about our year. But I am still feeling a strange lack of closure without having written an official Christmas letter. So here is our family's Hypothetical 2015 Christmas Letter, which could have been used to describe our year:
Dear Family and Friends,
Happy Holidays from the Hageman household! We had many adventures this year and have compiled our "Top 10" moments from the year:
10. The biggest news is that we moved to a new house in town this summer! Our old house was perfectly fine, but we love our new place - complete with a pool and a creek in the backyard. It is magical. However, we are never moving again. Never, ever, ever. We think. ;)
9. Annika is now in 6th grade, in her last year of elementary school. Daniel is in 2nd grade at a brand-new-to-him elementary school in our new neighborhood. Having the kids at two different elementary schools has gone really smoothly and we love both places.
8. In terms of our children's endeavors, both of them have enjoyed swimming lessons, basketball, tennis lessons, art and pottery classes, 4-H, the science fair, and summer musical theater. Annika went to overnight sewing camp and 4-H camp this summer, and is playing the clarinet in the school band. Daniel has discovered Minecraft and loves it to the exclusion of almost all else.
7. Our whole family loves our church and church family at College Avenue United Methodist Church. Both Will and Amy help on various committees, attempt to corral children in Sunday School and children's church, sing in choir (Will) or play in bell choir (Amy), and hope that no one notices our family's crazy behavior during service.
6. Amy and Will are both still professors at K-State in accounting (Amy) and electrical engineering (Will). We are united in our love of teaching and our hatred of grading. Amy made tenure and promotion earlier this year, meaning that everyone in Manhattan, KS is now stuck with us.
5. Three out of four of us love reading, and we are really working on the fourth member. Within our family, we belong to a mystery book group, a literary book group, and a mother/daughter book group. Now, if only we had more time to read...
4. Our life is regularly crazy due to our three cats, including a 20+ year old cat, Audrey (still alive and feisty) and two younger cats, Racer and Half Pint, who regularly chew and eat all plastic bags and headphones in a two-block radius.
3. Will and Amy have enjoyed doing road races this year, including a half marathon and a 25k trail race. We each love running and walking with friends. We have also added a new workout adventure this fall: boot camp classes, which we have decided are more tiring than running...
2. We went on several family vacations this year, including a winter trip to Estes Park, a spring break trip to South Dakota and Boulder, a summer trip to Disney World, and a Labor Day trip to nearby Rock Springs Ranch. The kids continue to be happy travelers as long as we can convince them that we will see something "Very Famous" along the way.
1. We love living in Manhattan, Kansas. And can't believe that before we moved back here, we worried that there wouldn't be enough to do or that we would be bored. HAHA! We absolutely love all of our wonderful friends and family in town and nearby.
We hope that all is well with you and your family. Thank you for being such special people in our lives.
Love,
The Hagemans
