Weekend Picture Fun

Looking back over my iPhone Camera Stream, I can reconstruct what we did this weekend. It appears that...

We had a surprise baby shower at Book Club for our friend Melissa. Book club met at Mr. K's on Thursday night and we got there a little early to commandeer a table and put up balloons.

Christine, Melendra, and Tammy.

Deanna and me.

Tammy and Julie.

What is totally lame is that I took all of these pictures before Melissa got here, and then never took a picture of our actual just...but, did take a picture of my fabulous Texas Mac 'N' Cheese.

We set up for the Wamego Science Fair on Friday afternoon! We picked up the kids early from school along with Annika's partner Rachael so that we could get set up at the Wamego High School. Annika and Rachael's project was "Operation Soda Geyser," or which type of candy makes the biggest explosion with Diet Coke. (Mentos was the winner, followed, surprisingly, by Life Savers - something about the reaction.)

Daniel's project was, "Which One Goes the Highest?" It was on...which type of diet soda makes the biggest explosion with Mentos. (Finding: Diet Dr. Pepper Diet Mountain Dew was by far the weakest.)

We celebrated a beautiful day in Wamego! All of this hard work of setting up meant we deserved a treat at the Kream Kup.

Wamego City Park - the weather was close to the 60s and it was perfect.

Will and I saw Danu in concert at McCain. This is a traditional Irish band and they were fantastic - a great mix of slow, sad ballads and fast, fun jigs (which still had sad lyrics if you listened closely...). This group from Ireland was also insistent that it is "St. Paddy's Day" rather than "St. Patty's."

We saw the Lego movie with friends! We met Sage and Bryn's whole family to watch this and it was great fun for all. I also timed it - the movie time started at 1:00 p.m, but previews lasted until 1:24 p.m.

Annika went to her friend Emma's birthday party! This was a bowling party at the Union and was so much fun. I was shocked to run into at least 4 other people I knew at other bowling parties also happening at the Union.

Silly girls!

Our kids both placed in the science fair! Daniel ended up with 1st place in the elementary category for "consumer science" and also received "Highly Superior," the top evaluation!

Daniel was so, SO excited about this!! We aren't exactly sure how many people were in his division, but we think it might have been just him or at most two people. :) We have not said one word to Daniel about this, though, and he is still beaming with pride days later, as he should be.

Annika and Rachael received 2nd place in the "intermediate" consumer science division!!

They also received "Highly Superior" and since they are in 4th grade or above, they get to go to the state science fair in Wichita held at the beginning of April!

Great job, girls! And a million thanks to Rachael's awesome mom, for doing 100% of the supervision of the girls' project, while we did....nothing. ;)

Sleepover Saturday night! Everyone slept in pretty late on Sunday morning with the time change and we ended up skipping Sunday School and just going straight to church.

The His Kids choir sang in worship! This is the 3rd through 6th grade choir and our friends who direct this are just phenomenal. I had completely forgotten that they were singing so Annika did not get to warm up before hand but just hopped in.

We visited Cico Park for gorgeous 70 degree weather!! Annika met a friend at City Park while Daniel headed with us over to Cico.

We also ran into church friends while we were here! Daniel especially loved playing with Bryce. I think there was a long pirate game? Or ninja? Something like that. :)

We enjoyed more of the Great Outdoors. Looking for bugs.

Daniel designed and made a pinwheel that he stuck in the yard.

Riding scooters!

I did lots of walking and running. I ran 7 miles early Sunday morning with Melendra and Christine, and then walked close to 4 miles in the afternoon with church friends Abby and Sarah.

Will took the kids to the New McDonalds. I had a long church meeting in the afternoon, while Will and the kids went to the K-State natatorium for our last family swim. After swimming, everyone was tired and hungry, so Will took them over to check out the new east-side McDonalds. This is the first building in town to have an indoor play place!

Fancy.

Some of the play structures are instruments that make different sounds. The kids loved them.

Finally, we had a late Sunday Sister Date. Around 8 p.m., Julie and I headed over to Mr. K's for a late appetizer/dinner.

They were out of just about every item of food we wanted (mac and cheese....spinach rolls....flatbread pizza...even ice cream!!) but we did manage to score the lobster fondue dip.

What did you do this weekend?
