2022 Christmas letter, if we were to write such a letter:
Greetings, friends! Here we are, with 2022 winding down, wondering if 2023 will finally give us more normalcy and fully stocked grocery store shelves? Or at least a little bit of renewed energy?
The Hagemans embraced the re-opened world in 2022 and took advantage of the chance to travel. Members of our family traveled to Seattle, Canada, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Colorado, San Diego, and Washington DC this year. However, we are most excited about our plan to visit all 105 Kansas counties, which we generously calculate will take at least a decade to finish.
Nika (they/them) is a Freshmen at Fort Hays State University, studying Geosciences and a member of the Geosciences Club and Writing Circle groups. Their high school graduation in the spring was a moment of bittersweet joy, and we miss their daily presence at home this semester. However, we are thankful for FaceTime and many trips to Hays.
Daniel is an Freshmen at Manhattan High, where he plays Tenor Saxophone in the school band. Daniel was in Track in the spring and tried Wrestling this fall; unfortunately, he suffered a concussion during wrestling conditioning and missed weeks and weeks of school this fall. Daniel has had a great attitude through this whole ordeal, and his mom is the one who is grumpy.
Amy is an accounting professor at K-State, where she is lucky to have amazing co-authors who will still work with her, after she is chronically late and behind on all research projects. Amy has decided that 43 years old is when you finally start to feel older, and has not been mistaken for a student for several years.
Will is an electrical engineering professor at K-State, where he teaches a million classes, a million preps, and a million students a year. He is beloved by his students despite the occasional small delays in grading their work. Will has been injured and unable to run for several years, which is a source of sadness, and has picked up studying German as a replacement hobby.
We love you all and thank you for being with us on this crazy ride of life. Wishing you peace, hope, and joy in 2023 and beyond.
Love,
The Hagemans
