Day 1 of Disney - Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney

Our Disney vacation has begun! We've had this trip planned since November and even though it now works out that we are closing on our new house and moving next week (eek!), I am so glad that we are able to all hang out as a family right now.

This morning began nice and early with a 7 a.m. flight out of Kansas City. Thankfully, we were able to stay with Nonnie and Pa the night before!

We took Southwest and had a lovely direct flight to Orlando. So excited to arrive!

We are staying at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, and took Disney's Magic Express from the airport to here. The resort has lovely playgrounds and multiple pools, and we enjoyed exploring.

Hammocks everywhere!

We had several neat deliveries to our hotel room. One was our luggage - we tagged our luggage for our flight, and Disney delivers it directly to your hotel room if you are staying on property. The second was a surprise that Will had ordered for the kids - bags with light sabers and fun snacks!

We took a bus from our hotel over to Downtown Disney, where we enjoyed visiting some of our old favorite stores.

But the absolutely very best part was heading to the Rainforest Cafe, where we had a lovely meal with our dearest of dear friends, the Hills. We miss them so much and it was so wonderful to reconnect with Cindy, Brian, Savannah, and Taylor again.

Our whole gang!

Savannah and Annika always are able to pick up right where they left off and this time was no different. Can't wait until we are able to hang out again - love you all!

After the Rainforest Cafe, we took another bus to Magic Kingdom!!! I absolutely love this theme park and it makes me so happy to be here. We went here for a day last year when we visited Orlando, so we opted to visit this one on our "short" day today.

And what was our daughter's absolute favorite ride that she requested to do first? Disney's Carousel of Progress. Based on how much she loves this ride on the history of household technology, I think she will adore Epcot. :)

Daniel's own request was to visit Tom Sawyer Island. Based on how much he loves this island, I really think we need to actually all pay a visit to Silver Dollar City in Branson. :)

We weren't here for the whole day, so tried to hit the highlights of what the kids enjoyed along with what was feasible with lines. Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride.

Walk-through of the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse.

Our first Fast Pass (which we only booked yesterday - you can book them 60 days in advance but of course we do everything last minute) - Buzz Lightyear. You shoot things with guns at targets. Heaven for my husband. :)

The People Mover was open!! I love this ride - very low-key trip through Tomorrowland.

The castle as dark approaches.

For my friend Angela - eating a Dole Whip for a late evening snack!

Disney's PhilharMagic show.

My absolute favorite ride at Magic Kingdom is It's a Small World. I say that completely genuinely. I love this ride and it makes me happy every time.

Disney's the Haunted Mansion. Our second Fast Pass. Both of the kids loved it.

Our last Fast Pass was for the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride, which Daniel loved. He and I rode in the front seat and had a great view.

Coming back to the hotel, we took a bus from Magic Kingdom. Will astutely said that it was a bit like a cattle car experience, but it is also freeing not to have to worry about a car.

Tomorrow we are sneaking over to Disney's competitor to go to Harry Potter World at Universal! The kids have been looking forward to this visit with so much anticipation and I can't wait to see their excitement in the morning.
